What Are The Diamonds 4 C's?

The 4C’s is the industry standards for assessing a diamond’s quality.

Golsong’s gemmologist carefully consider all these factors and plenty more to ensure your full satisfaction when searching for your diamonds. .

Cut

Diamond cutting requires great knowledge and accuracy; we source our diamonds from a close network of suppliers who excel at both. Even our melee diamonds – the small sided stones of usually less than 0.05ct are selected based on the 4C’s.

The cut of a stone also refers to its shape. The round brilliant cut is currently the one used the most on the market. Its multi-facets (57) and symmetrical design give it an exceptional sparkle which works especially well on engagement rings.

Beside the round brilliant there is a huge variety of cuts which you can ask for.

Colour

Using colour to describe a diamond is something not always easy to see or understand for an untrained eye. Golsong’s gemmologists are always there to help you choose and analyse your diamond colour, whether white or colourful each stone has its own beauty!

Graded on a scale from D to Z, the finest-quality white diamonds are at the top of this one. It is the absence of colour that intensifies the flashes of fire visible in the very best diamonds.

D and E diamonds are frequently referred to as "exceptional whites" reaching high prices, F and G as "rare whites", difficult to distinguish but commonly used on the market.

The rarest diamonds are the fancy colours such as red, blue, pink, green, orange, purple up to black. Prices tend to relate their beauty and rarity.

However, Golsong does work with fancy coloured diamond suppliers and is happily helping you find the stone of your dream, whatever its size.

Clarity

Each diamond is unique, like a snowflake. Nearly all contain crystals or minerals, formed during their creation in the earth and visible to the trained eye as minuscule inclusions.

It is these tiny blemishes, known as inclusions, which affect a diamond's clarity and make it possible to compare two diamonds of exactly the same cut, carat and colour.

Carat

Carat weight is the factor that everyone's most interested in:
how big?
But it is not that simple, since carat is a measure of weight, not size, the cut of a diamond can make it seem bigger or smaller than it actually is.

Sometimes, higher-carat diamonds appear more brilliant because the greater surface area refracts more light. Also, it does not necessarily follow that a two carat diamond will be twice as expensive as a one carat stone of identical cut, colour and clarity.

Larger diamonds occur less frequently in nature, making them rarer and much more valuable.
